![]() Hey folks, this is Aelius. I apologize for the lengthy pause and lack of immediate explanation, but we encountered some technical difficulties in the past few months shortly after the following message from our artist, Jodimest. His message is as follows: ============================================================================================== "Prepare yourselves and sit down, I'm about to drop a bomb- an unpleasant one. I've thought long and hard about what I would say in this situation, hoping that I would never have to confront devoted and patient fans years in the making with this news. I can't even say that what I am about to say is conclusive, but it reflects the feelings I have as well as the truth that both Aelius and I knew had to come sometime. I am rapidly losing the will to continue Jewel Vixens and as it stands I don't know if I can continue to contribute to it as an artist. Six years ago Aelius and I excitedly spoke about how cool it would be for Jewel Vixens to become a comic on its own, and we struggled to find an artist until I decided to take the mantle as a temporary solution to the problem. It ended up being one of the most exciting ventures of my life, a weekly challenge to better myself that has reshaped me. I have the Jewel Vixens to thank for my self-esteem, confidence, and insoluble skills. All the same, after six years I have grown tired to the point of depression. I find it very difficult to continue work on Jewel Vixens quite simply because I cannot imagine committing myself to this enterprise for years or decades more. I have spent a great deal of my time on this project at the expense of certain other values, but in the end the Jewel Vixens are not of my creation, and I confess that I have fooled everyone. I'm not a creator- I'm just a fan who decided to draw some of his favorite characters and help breathe life into them. I'm grateful to Aelius for allowing me to propel the Jewel Vixens forward and I think Aelius is grateful for my efforts. At our last meeting at Anthrocon I informed Aelius that this issue would likely be my last and that if the story were to continue we would need to find a new artist. I tried to commit to finishing the current issue, but I have to confess that at this time I am so deeply tired of Jewel Vixens that I'm having great difficulty pushing forward even at a very slow pace. Those of you who have visited my DeviantArt or Fur Affinity accounts may have noticed that the majority of my time has gone to a personal project of mine, my first standalone story and one I hope will be well-received. I should confess right now that from the start I have had misgivings about pouring my effort into characters that do not belong to me, characters whose futures I cannot truly chart. However, my misgivings of ownership are not the reason I wish to pass the mantle along. I am simply tired, as I'm sure a lot of people would be, after six years of commitment to a single idea at the expense of all others. What's the future of Jewel Vixens? I don't know. Will I create new pages? I'd like to think so, but I'm inundated by the overwhelming fatigue and am likely too unreliable an artist to do the story justice. Whatever role I played in launching Jewel Vixens has been fulfilled, and now I suppose I am a liability. If anyone views themselves as committed enough to the idea of illustrating these characters and piloting a comic, we won't dismiss anyone. I know exactly where I started artistically and it shows in the early pages of the comic. Even if you're not terribly confident in your artwork, you may qualify. It's a big commitment, but in the end your job is relatively easy- all you have to do is outpace me, and at this point, that's not a difficult thing to do. I don't want to leave for good. I've committed too much to this enterprise to simply pack my bags and disappear, but we are desperately in need of a change of artist." ============================================================================================== As it turns out, we've actually had five artists volunteer for the position! Of course, if you're reading this yourself and are interested, by all means let us know. We would like as much interest as possible. Audition scripts have already been sent out and we're currently waiting for the results from our potential artists. In addition, this is Jodimest's final send-off; the uncolored page 26, seen above. And with that, the hiatus continues, but bear in mind I don't plan on this being permanent. The girls will return, albeit with new makeup, so to speak. In the mean time, we got the art gallery and forums working again! Feel free to chat us up there (you can find it within the "Fanfiction" section, at our Art page), and you can also find us at Yahoo!
